Instructions to Carrier Delivery Person

When I was shown the demo I asked about how to add shipping/delivery instructions (Ok to leave at door, Please leave at the side door, Please deliver to back door etc). But when I asked about that in the training her person had no idea what I was talking about.

So if I need to place delivery instructions to the carrier on the label - how do I do that?

Hi Connie -

ShippingEasy provides an option to place a custom message on labels. However, the setting is configured to apply to all labels, rather than on an order-by-order basis.

This article will explain how to customize the message on your USPS labels:

We also have additional options to customize packing slips with both customer and internal notes. With delivery notes such as these available on the packing slips, your packing team may be able to manually transpose the notes to the packages.

Thank you. By all labels - you just mean all labels will be adjusted so that option can fit - not that the same message will be printed on all labels, right?

Thank you. That will not work as it only allowed 16 characters. Some like "please leave with neighbr to the left", "please place between the door and screen door" are all too much.

As a note to anyone who might put FRAGILE on the package: I see your "example" uses "FRAGILE" as an example - multiple people from our own post office (inside post office & carriers) have told use NEVER put something like that on the package. They've seen too many deliberately handle those improperly (like using it as a football and laughing). Like any occupations, there are those who just do not care.

We usually put instructions under the customers name on the shipping label then highlight it with a highligter. We will find a different solution for this.

Hi Connie -

With the customized labels, the same message will appear on all labels, and it is limited to just 16 characters. It's best suited for merchants that have a universal note they need to leave, such as "liquid", etc.

As to your feedback about our example, I have alerted our Product Team to the warning issued by your local USPS and advised that we confer with our USPS representative to find an example that is more suitable.

You have an interesting work-around solution - adding the note as an address line. While the "Address line 1" will be used to validate the address, you may be able to add the message into "Address line 2" without it affecting the validation of your addresses. However, I cannot say that USPS approves of using the address lines for notes like this.

ShippingEasy provides the option to edit orders and addresses from the ORDERS page. This can be helpful when preparing your orders for shipment.

I would like to be able to add a custom note on each package or leave blank - prefer to be able to upload this note via the Shipping API - bottom of the label where you list sku items or item names - prefer it be more than 16 characters, but 30-50 would be fine - it is a carrier message or a customer po# or reference number

Hello Steve - Thanks for your feedback.

Unfortunately, this isn't something that we currently support. However, I encourage you to repost your request in our Feature Request threads - these are monitored by our Product Team and are used to prioritize future development work.

I don't see an existing thread, so please start a new thread under this topic: Shipments: Orders, Labels & Shipping

Thank you!
