We have had some instances where the shipping crew has shipped UPS Ground packages to PO Boxes. It's kind of an easy error to make since they aren't actually looking at the full addresses online, only name and town. But of course UPS ground does not delivery to PO Boxes. It would be great if you would build something into the system that would prevent this from happening. So basically if the customer address is a PO Box and the shipper chooses UPS ground, Shipping Easy would just say this is not allowed and would prevent that choice from allowing the shipment to be printed.
Prevent UPS ground shipping to PO Box

Hi Steven,
This is an interesting suggestion. It sounds like a rule of some kind may meet your needs - something like "If the address starts with P.O., use a certain Saved Selection that is not UPS Ground" and possibly even add in an error message when UPS Ground is selected for these orders. Does that sound right? If so, I'll add this for consideration.
In the meantime, I did want to include some more information on UPS' official stance on P.O. boxes for UPS Ground: Can I use UPS to ship to a P.O. box?
I wouldn't be able to recommend shipping via ground for P.O. boxes with UPS as this can result in a fee and is not guaranteed, but I wanted to make sure you had the info they provide regarding shipping this way to a P.O. box.
I also wanted to suggest you set up categories within ShippingEasy as well as rules. You can set up a Shipping Rule today with a condition of "Destination Type" of P.O/ Box to categorize orders that meet that condition on the Orders page. Below you can find info on how to create a rule and category:

I hope this helps!
Thanks!
Thanks for getting back to me. A rule would work if it could be “if PO Box, then don’t allow UPS Ground” as we don’t necessarily use any one system, for example it could be first class mail or priority mail or ups Surepost. I read your note on the UPS Ground issue and this is exactly what happened. UPS went ahead and delivered to the customer ground address, but for the extra $12 which I would like to avoid. So if you build a rule into you system I guess you could allow UPS ground to PO Box, but just pop up a warning with a check box “Do you really want to do this?” that would be better then nothing.

Hi Steven,
Thanks for elaborating. It's on our list to look into but in the meantime, I suggest trying my earlier suggestions. This may help a bit.
Happy Shipping!
I am also searching for a solution to this problem. I just created a rule for PO box and set it to assign to category Pink and set saved carrier selection to USPS Priority Package. The category portion worked but it did not change the carrier selection on a test order I created.
Frankly this workaround isn't really very useful since the person doing the shipping probably isn't going to see the category flag unless it is one of the first few orders in the list of orders.
I feel that the lack of UPS PO Box address detection is a serious flaw that needs priority attention.
This is important. Please fix.

Creating a shipping rule to default it to USPS does not prevent someone from changing it to FedEx or UPS. If FedEx and UPS cannot deliver to a PO Box, then why not just totally block it? Or at least have a popup that asks "Are you sure?".
Thanks for taking the time to post! Your detailed explanation is very helpful! We have logged the requests and it will be under consideration for prioritization. If there are any updates, we will be sure to update this post and direct other customers to share their feedback here as well!
I think a popup warning would be best since sometimes buyers with a PO Box will use both that and the street address on different lines since they don't know if the seller will use USPS or an alternate shipper. Definitely, don't want to block those, just allow us to format them correctly.
Hi Bill,
Thanks for that feedback! I will be sure to pass this information on to our Product Team.
If there are any updates, we will be sure to update this post and direct other customers to share their feedback here as well!
Seems like a no brainer to have Fedex and UPS not an option for PO boxes. Allowing an override would be needed also since sometimes they put street address and "PO BOX"
Hi Brian,
I have logged the request for this feature. If there are any updates, we will be sure to update this forum post. Thanks!

Hello there,
Thanks for contacting ShippingEasy. Our application does not limit the option to select PO Box for other carriers, however, as mentioned in our post above, you can set rules to automate having those address types set to USPS.
The most general rule would be to create a saved selection that is just set to USPS, without a carrier service, or package type selected. This way you could switch the service to First Class, or Priority etc, as needed.
How to: Save my Carrier Selections for future shipments
You can then add that saved selection to a rule.
How to create a shipping rule
The rule would simply say
IF
Destination type > is equal to > PO Box
THEN
Set saved carrier selection > USPS PO Box (or whatever you decide to name that saved selection mentioned above)
This should make it so that your PO Box orders are always defaulted to USPS.
I hope this helps!
