Label Refund

Hello. I created a USPS Return Label for a customer, but they never returned, and the label hasn't been used. I tried to cancel the label for refund, but I got an error message. I started to look into deadlines, and it appears that there is 30 day deadline for a USPS refund.

Is there anything than can be done if the label still hasn't been used, but it's been over 30 days?

Also, what could be done in the future, to avoid something like this? I give clients 30 days to return something, but If the 30th day falls on a Sunday, then Monday becomes 31'st, which is too late to cancel, but if I were to cancel on Friday 28th before 5pm, but they ship on the 28th after 5pm, then they run into issues.

I know UPS.com for example, doesn't charge for return labels, until the label is scanned. Is that something that can be done with USPS?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Gene,

With the labels being past 30 days, that is the cutoff period for USPS to process labels and outside of what USPS can refund.

The only solution I can think of would be enabling Scan-based return labels, that would allow you to create a return label at the same time as the label, and doesn't charge you for the return label unless it's used. However, this is only available on our paid plans for that feature.  I've linked it for you for reference.

The other solution would be to create the return labels as they need them so that way, you don't create the return labels when you don't need them (you do have the option of getting it emailed to them if you were to go this route). You mentioned that you have a 30-day return policy, one other thing that may benefit you is if you were to give yourself more time, maybe 25 days return policy but that option is up to you and may not be the best option.

I hope this helps!
