Package Refusal

Hello,

I have a customer in Germany who received her item in damaged condition. The package was insured via Shipsurance. Before contacting me about the damage, she refused the package upon opening it and had it sent back to me. She told me she didn't want to pay import taxes on the damaged item.

The customer had opened the package at her post office with witnesses and received documentation from the post office concerning the damages. Is there any way to file an insurance claim at this point?

Please let me know when you can and thanks so much,

Emily

Hi Emily - Thanks for posting to our forums! I'm sorry to see that your package arrived damaged, but fortunately you had the foresight to insure it.

Under Shipsurance's Terms of Use, you have grounds for filing a claim for a refund of the value of the product, up to the amount that was covered.

To determine how much insurance was purchased for a shipment, first locate the order in your SHIPMENT HISTORY. Within the "Insurance" column, there is a check next to each insured order. Click the check next to the specific order that was damaged to see a pop up listing the amount of insurance purchased.

Starting a claim is easy. You can find instructions in our guide: How do I file an insurance claim? We also have a short-cut to a pre-filled claims form via the Insurance Details listed on the SHIPMENT HISTORY page:

  1. Go to your SHIPMENT HISTORY.
  2. Locate the order for which you need to file a claim.
  3. Click on the check found in the "Insurance" column.
  4. Follow the blue Make a claim with shipsurance link.
  5. A new window with a prefilled claims form will open. Verify that the prefilled fields are correct and complete any blank fields.
  6. If everything is accurate, select the Submit Claim link on the bottom of the page.
