Label dates

Our local post office is extremely anal about the date on the label being the exact day that you are shipping the package. As a customer coming from ShipStation we were able to change our settings so that ShipStation would automatically change the date on our labels to the next day after a certain time (3:30pm in our case). And they would also default to the next business day on holiday's that the Post Office is closed. Is this a feature that you can add to your system as it would be very helpful to lots of customers I'm sure. Also, it would be nice to be able to change the date of ALL of the labels that are in your cart as opposed to having to change them all individually as you add them to your cart (what if you forget to do one?). As I stated before, my local PO is incredibly anal about this little thing as has refused over 100 packages before because the date was wrong...

Great news! We now have the ability to set the ship date to automatically advance to the next day after a specific time. This will be especially helpful for users who have a USPS pickup scheduled for the same time each day as they can now set labels created after this time to automatically default to the next days date. NOTE: this can be set up on a per user basis and has been added to the “My Account” settings under the option name "Automatically advance ship date after". Just be sure to "Update Profile" before proceeding to another page in the application. So glad we were able to get this feature released for you! Please keep the wonderful feedback coming!

Staci,

Thanks for reaching out. I am assuming the issue you are experiencing is because you are not post-dating, is this correct?

I will forward your request for the ability to create a sort of post-dating rule.
Please note, if you do create labels after 9 PM Pacific time, ShippingEasy should post-date the label automatically for you. Otherwise, this needs to be done manually at this time. This article will walk you through the post-dating steps: https://support.shippingeasy.com/hc/en-us/articles/203084339-How-do-I-advance-a-ship-date-for-USPS-shipments-

I can also definitely see how post dating a group of labels rather than individually would help, so I will forward that request to our Product Team.

This is something that I would like too. It's also available in Stamps.com. I had my account there set up to automatically roll over to the next day after 5:00 local time. I've never understood why ShippingEasy doesn't have postal holidays built in. When preparing labels on a postal holiday, every single label has to have the date manually changed. In Stamps.com, I could change the date once, then it applied to every label I prepared after that.

Sometimes we are in such a rush that we forget to post date the labels and then our PO won't accept the packages during pick-up the next day. It is just so tedius to have to remember with each label to change the date before adding it to your cart. It would just be really nice to be able to just change the date on the "Finish and pay" page or at the cart for all the labels within the cart and to also have a cut-off time. The 9PM time seems really silly because most Post Offices are closed by 5PM, ours closes at 4PM so we have always set our cut-off time to 3:30 so we had time to run any packages that we forgot to change the date on to the PO.

I agree with this suggestion, although I'd like to see it as a shipping rule. Certain carriers arrive at different times during the day, so a single account setting won't suffice.

Staci, as to the post office not accepting your package because of wrong ship date, take a look at the DMM to see if there's a rule in there that states they won't accept the package. I've never had this issue, but if it's not in the DMM, then bring it to the attention of the postmaster and you shouldn't have the issue anymore. You should also look at scheduling a daily carrier pickup since I have found the carriers to be much more reasonable than the clerks at the PO.

Ray - We do have a scheduled daily carrier pick up for our mail and she won't pick up the packages if they are dated wrong either (per the post master). If we mix in a few packages that are dated the previous day by mistake they don't say anything (I don't think they notice) but they won't take a whole load that is dated wrong. Our Post Office is very small and has weird hours. There are only 4 employees, including carriers, so the Post Master knows pretty much everything that is going on. He said they won't take the pre-dated packages because the USPS counts the package delivery speed based on the date on the label and it makes them look bad if it takes longer than what it should for the package to get delivered. With all the technology these days I would think they could start calculating delivery speed based on the first scan when the PO accepted the package as opposed to the date on the package. I have found in my experiences with various post offices across the US that they all kind of operate with their own set of rules, whether they are accurate or not.

I agree with the rule thing for others who have multiple carriers picking up from them. We only use USPS and UPS and our UPS labels aren't dated so it's not an issue with them, only USPS.

This is not a problem that is associated with specific post offices. All USPS documentation clearly states that packages must be shipped on the date that is on the label. Since ShippingEasy insists on defaulting back to the current date, trying to prepare packages for the next day requires constantly resetting the date.

Just curious, why was this placed in such an odd location, under "My Account"? It seems like this setting would make more sense if placed under "Shipping Providers" based on the courier that's used to ship the package. However, it's good that there's at least some ability to advance the ship date.

Ray,

Thanks for that feedback! The reason for the location is because it can be set up on a per user basis and "My Account" is the best place to change your information for each user. It is important to note that the time zone is based on the Administrator's time zone so, for example, if you have 2 users, the admin in central time, and the 2nd user in eastern time, the administrators account will always be based on central but the 2nd user will need to adjust their time forward an hour to meet up with the time zone in use.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, concerns, or issues, please do not hesitate to reach back out to me and I would be more than happy to assist!
