Edit SKU in Order

As our business grows, we see an increase in requests from customers to make changes to their orders. I have an easy question and a hard question :)

  1. Easy question: could you make the SKU field in the order editable? SKU is the primary field on the packing slip. If someone wants to change their shirt size, for example, the only way to do this is to change the SKU field, so that our packing team will see the change. I think that's fairly simple - doable???

  2. Hard question: ever thought about creating a way for end customers to make changes to their order prior to shipment? This would be a great self service function.

Thanks for reaching out and for the great questions/requests! Please see my answers below:

1) Unfortunately, we don't allow the editing of the SKU as it would be a bit too messy (since we are required for some stores to update SKUs back to the store). As this is not currently an option (I've forwarded your request to our Product Team), I may have some other workarounds.

  • Dont automatically sync for your Shopify store. It sounds like there many be some additional processing time or time allotted for changes to be made after an order is created. Given that, what you could do is disable automatic syncing.With this, you can sync when you are ready and sure that the orders in the statuses that ShippingEasy brings in are ready to be brought in.
  • Alternatively, do you use a different SKU for each size? One thing you could try is making sizes more of a product option instead of a completely separate SKU. Product options/details can be changed after we bring them into ShippingEasy.
  • Should you not want to do either of the previous suggestions, you could always create a manual order and clear the incorrect order.

2) Very cool idea. It sounds like you'd want some sort of customer-facing app to where addresses could easily be changed, etc. Is that right? If so, I'll forward to our Product Team!

I'd love to see this feature; it would be very helpful, especially since I'm now integrating SE with QuickBooks. When I try to edit an order, it does not allow me to add a SKU. Etsy is one of my stores and they don't have a SKU option, so it throws off the inventory and monthly reports. It would also be a big help if we could add/remove/edit the order number. Sometimes when I do a manual order I forget to add this in, then I have to clear the entire order and start all over again.
