Autofill carrier info from shopping cart to create shipment

Completed

To totally streamline the order creation and speed, the system needs to autofill in the choice of carrier & carrier service - both of which the shopping cart software has already transmitted... and 99% of the time you be shipping the method the customer chose.  If this is done, all we need to do is choose the box size and hit print - now that's 'shipping easy'...

Hi FSWERKS,

Another great suggestion and we hear you loud and clear. This year our goal is to simplify and speed up the process of shipping as much as possible. What becomes difficult is that each store platform and merchant define their shipping methods differently. You may name yours "Priority Mail" and assign it to a specific USPS rate however others may name theirs "Standard" with a flat fee based on order amount or weight.

We are talking internally about creating mappings whereby users can list their Requested Shipping Methods and map them to a Saved Selection. This way, a default shipment method will always be selected for each shipment that comes through the system.

Would this help you?

Yes, we have multiple shopping carts. and 99% of the time we need they system to simply select what the customer has chosen (and agreed to pay by their credit card) so we do not want to change what the customer has chosen.. so since your system already knows what those selections are, i wouldn't know any company that would want anything different if they are using an online store.

Thanks FSWERKS, we will discuss internally and add to our queue.

I agree that this could be done by having the ability to map different Saved Selection defaults to different stores and/or customer shipping selections. Even though the different stores have different ways of calling this out, each one doesn't change. For instance, eBay might say "USPSFirstClassMailInternational" while my own store might say "USPS First Class International" -  but as long as I can map each of them to a saved selection, it doesn't matter that the text is different.

I was just about to post this feature request when I came across this post. This would be very helpful. I think that it would also be helpful to be able to have it not default to any saved selection if it comes across an unrecognized service. For instance, right now mine always defaults to a saved selection with Priority Flat Rate Padded Envelope, but if someone chooses "Express" and I don't have a saved selection already mapped for Express, I would want it to not use any saved selection at all.

Hi Justin,

You bring up a good point - we will need a default behavior if no method can be matched. I'll add that to our internal discussion of this topic.

Thanks,

We use the Volusion shopping cart and it identifies shipping methods by numbers.  IE: USPS Priority Shipping = 891, USPS EXPRESS =  855, etc...  It would be great if I could save settings based on shipping method identifier!

Hi Brook,

Thanks for providing that clarification. We will keep that in mind when thinking through the details of this feature.

Thanks,
