ConnectEasy -- How to print from two computers

Answered

Hi there -- I intially set up Connect Easy on my laptop and it worked great connecting to my label printer. I now need to be able to print from both my laptop and a desktop to the same printer (we plug and unplug the printer). I installed ConnectEasy on the desktop and it works...but it routes the label to my laptop, and then to my printer. I need to have my desktop print directly to the printer and cut out my laptop. Any suggestions on how to do this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hi Kelly,

I am not sure I understand what you mean about it routing to your laptop. To clarify, if you want to use each computer without having the other turned on (the one with ConnectEasy needs to be turned on at all times when using ConnectEasy) you would likely want to add ConnectEasy to your other computer. Does that answer your question?

I have added connect easy to both of my computers and the label printer is plugged onto the computer I want to use.  When I click print label I'm given a message that my label is being sent to designated printer but nothing happens.  When I plug the usb into the computer that the original computer it just prints immediately.  This even though shipping easy is set up and active on both computers and the dymo label printer shows on both.

I need to be able to print labels from other computers without having the original laptop involved.

Thanks.

Hi Mari-Ann,

ConnectEasy works by routing your print jobs from ShippingEasy through the ConnectEasy application onto the printer. In order for this to work, there are a couple key things to check for:

  • ConnectEasy is installed on a computer that has direct access to the printer. In other words, if you are on that computer, you can print a document from any program to that printer.
  • The computer that hosts ConnectEasy is turned on and connected to the internet. This allows ShippingEasy to pass along the print jobs.

Can you please double check that the computer you want to use for printing has access to the printer and the internet?

Thanks, Jennifer.

Our problem was that our second computer did not have the Dymo driver installed. Once we installed the Dymo driver, we were able to get things to work correctly.

Thank you for the update Mari-Ann. I'm glad you got that working!

Just a note for posterity sake, whenever there is a problem printing with ConnectEasy, it's a great idea to make sure that you can print to the target printer from a different application on your computer (such as notepad).

If you can't print at all to the printer, then updating drivers, checking that USB cables are secure or devices are powered on are all great initial troubleshooting measures. Find more tips in our printer troubleshooting guide.
