Backorder Category/Email Rule

We are coming from a magento store using shipworks, and now on a shopify store and trying to use shippingeasy, but quickly finding limitations.

Our previous setup, we use shipworks to filter/categorize orders, and have email rules to send an order status update to our customers.  this way, if we mark an item as "backordered", it will put it into a backorder category and notify our customer.

I've asked support if there's any email rules, which there are only the 2 obvious; shipment notification and return notification.  It would be nice to see this program send order status updates based on shipping status's (I think this would build upon the basic categories).

What I was hoping to do:

-order comes in, and we find items that will be backordered
-put order in "backorder" category
-email rule based on the above to send email template

 

Hope someone else finds this necessary and not just me.

Hi Paul,

This is a great suggestion! Since we do not currently support this, there is one thing I would like to suggest. Since you use Shopify, you may have the option to download a third party application that allows you to send backordered emails to customers. From a quick Google search, it appears there are quite a few of them out there that may meet your needs. So, if there is a way to categorize backordered orders within Shopify, you could send emails from there. This may meet one of your needs.

In the meantime, I have logged your request for the ability to email status updates to your customers based on a category (set by a rule). We'll continue to monitor feedback for this feature and prioritize accordingly.

Hi Paul - In reading over your idea here, I wanted to add a couple thoughts of my own.

We currently have a similar thread running about other types of emails that ShippingEasy could support. There's been more chatter about emails lately, so I'd encourage you to weigh in here:

While this doesn't support an automated email yet - we have an example rule that can be used to help manage your backordered products. I suspect that if we added support for your email option, that we'd probably tie in into a rule like this:
