We get a lot of label failed with international orders because our descriptions are too long. Is there any way to just have this automatically cut the description off so the label will just print. Just would save customers time in my opinion.

It just so happens we do have an option to automatically truncate your product descriptions to 50 characters for international shipments.
That checkbox option is going to be located in Settings in the International Shipments settings page.
This article displays a picture of those settings along with a description for the option that will help you truncate the descriptions:
