Sync frequency and overselling

I sell on Amazon, eBay and Shopify and am currently using ShippingEasy for shipping orders. I currently use ecomdash for inventory control and am considering changing.

Many of my products are single quantity or low quantity.  My concern is the timing to minimize the occurrence of overselling a product.

How often are orders pulled? I know that orders for shipping are pulled once per hour (unless I manually sync).  Is it going to still be the same for inventory control?

After an order is received, how long does it take for my other sites to be updated?

UPDATE: ShippingEasy retired the Inventory Management subscription in June of 2020. Our Product Catalog stores a comprehensive list of the products you sell and allows you to add your product information to leverage product and SKU details to ship more efficiently. Learn more about our Product Catalog.

Existing Inventory Management subscribers will still have the ability to use the features specific to Inventory Management, however, we are no longer supporting new subscribers.

Hi Bill,

Thank you for your post and for you interest in our new inventory management solution. Once you enable inventory on your account your orders will continue to pull into ShippingEasy every hour unless you run a manual sync to pull them in more frequently. As soon as your orders sync with our system your available inventory will be updated in ShippingEasy. We then send any changes in your available inventory back to each of your enabled stores every 10 minutes.

This is explained in more detail here: https://support.shippingeasy.com/hc/en-us/articles/211021763-Can-ShippingEasy-send-inventory-updates-to-my-store-

Thank you for your prompt response.  If I understand this correctly then it could be up to 1 hr 10 minutes that I could potentially oversell if an order is placed for the same item in one of my other stores.  This is not going to work for me then, I would definitely get oversells with that much lag, I use ecomdash now with a 5 minute cycle and I get occasional oversells.  They don't have a adequate shipping module so I guess I will keep this split for now even though it is more expensive that way.

Its really too bad that the major sales venues don't provide a push notification service for service vendors we specify.

Hi Bill,

I understand. Right now the process required to pull new orders into ShippingEasy will continue to run on an hourly sync. That said, you can select to run a manual sync outside of this window using the "Sync" button located on the Orders page.

Likewise our inventory updates will continue to run on a 10 minute schedule however you can select to run a manual sync outside of this window using the "Send to Store" button located on an individual product page in our product catalog. This can be used at any time to trigger for your available stock to be immediately sent to your store(s). Note, this change will be deployed tonight so please wait to review your account tomorrow morning on 8/31/2016.

We do plan to continue to update and enhance our Inventory Management feature in the future. As of now, we are still accepting all requests and feedback before making decisions on the next features and integrations to focus on. Your request is a very welcome start.

Thanks, Tessa.

I use ecomdash now and even with their 5 minute sync cycle I have had 2 oversell situations in the past year.  I don't have a huge business, we average somewhere around 15 orders per day.  I'd love to incorporate your inventory management along with shipping but for now I will have to stick with what I have.

I agree that every minute this is reduced is a benefit.  And I would like to see this happen too.

Faster order imports are important for us as well.  We currently use SolidCommerce.  I think they import orders every 20 minutes.

Once an hour does seem like a long time.

10 minutes between syncs seems reasonable to me if you have an order management system attached to your account.

Hi Nathan,

Thank you for sharing your feedback as well. As we are about to enter the busiest shipping season our development team will be in a code freeze from mid November though to the end of the year. We want to ensure stability in both our shipping and inventory applications during the busy holiday period.

We are still looking into this request and will update the thread with additional information as it becomes available in 2017.

One of the reasons why I am trying out Shippingeasy is because of its inventory function. We sell in multiple marketplaces as well and one of the difficulties we have is to reduce overselling/ missed sale opportunity and inventory sync is exactly the solution. But when there is such a long lag between order pulls and inventory sync, it kinda makes me worry that when inventory for an item is low, there is a high chance to oversell across marketplaces. I am ok with 10 mins lag for inventory sync but an hour is quite long for order pull. If both can be shorten, that would be ideal. I am still gonna try and see how it works out. It is a great tool after all.
