Customers - multiple items ordered same day create a status problem

Many of my orders are a few different line items and Ebay does not put them under one order.  They send them on several different orders.  The system codes that customer as a repeat customer when in fact they only purchased once.  The "first order and the "last order" have the same date.    

If there could be a rule like if the first order date = the last order date make the customer status "new" it would solve the problem.   

If we could have rules regarding customer status, the status category could be user defined and not have to be the same for everyone.
