More Features for the Cost Field

0

Being an e-commerce owner keeping track of product cost is, in my opinion, one of the absolute most important things when it comes to product data.

My request specific requests are

1. Make the cost field exportable so it can be mass updated

The fact that you cannot export out cost data and have to populate it one by one makes it impossible to manage if people need to update prices across the board for situations such as: getting started, switching suppliers, price changes, or just high-level overviews.

2. It would also be really nice if somehow that field could correlate with the price field in popular e-commerce platforms such as Shopify. Data is already being synced across fields and Shopify has recently added their own cost field which has been a huge upgrade to their platform. Being able to sync this field and not having to update it in two places would just make life easier for everyone. I use ShippingEasy to place POs and often times my cost prices are incorrect because somewhere along the line I forgot to go through the arduous task of updating prices within shipping easy. I love placing POs in ShippingEasy but this pricing update causes some issues from time to time making me unable to count on the platform as my source of truth.

I'm sure there are other benefits out there around this issue as well that I may not be thinking of at this time but I invite other users to share their thoughts and interests around this feature request if possible. Surely I cannot be the only one that feels the same way about this.

ShippingEasy is a great platform and bang for the buck so I'm not terribly upset but I think if this feature request went through or some kind of enhancements were made to this I would be over the moon.

UPDATE: ShippingEasy retired the Inventory Management subscription in June of 2020. Our Product Catalog stores a comprehensive list of the products you sell and allows you to add your product information to leverage product and SKU details to ship more efficiently. Learn more about our Product Catalog.

At this time, we will no longer be building out Inventory Management features.

Existing Inventory Management subscribers will still have the ability to use the features specific to Inventory Management, however, we are no longer supporting new subscribers.

I agree COST automation can be improved at shipping easy.

I agree that some kind of connection of cost between systems like Shopify, Big Commerce etc would be fantastic.  We need a single point of truth when it comes to cost.

Hi,

Thanks, everyone for taking the time to post. Would you please clarify if the "cost" field being requested is the "unit cost" associated with the Supplier?

Today, Unit Cost can be exported via "Download Products" and is part of the Suppliers column. This will provide the user with the current Unit Cost per product per supplier and a mechanism to edit and re-upload.

As for updating the cost in Shopify, updating these non-stock related fields on stores is on the long-term roadmap. Curious, is the cost field that you would expect to see updated in Shopify by ShippingEasy the "Cost per item" field?

Thanks!

We just started with ShippingEasy and Shopify.

We have 2500 sku's, which we imported into ShippingEasy, and we used the column with Supplier:SKU:Unit cost, so that purchase orders would have unit costs in them. Silly me... I thought they would have had them as the template already has a SKU column for the product, as well as a vendor column, and a Wholesale cost. But my take is the combined column is helpful if you have more that one supplier for a SKU.

So, you can imagine my disappointment when after the big import, we added a new item this morning (we typically add a few new items each week) and discovered that not only did the unit cost not come in (not even into the wholesale cost field) but when we keyed a purchase order and added the unit cost manually... that unit cost didn't "stick". Meaning we processed that purchase order, then tested a new po for the same item, and the unit cost again had to be manually entered.

And, per the helpful live chat folks on ShippingEasy, I soon found out that the only way to add that in, is to create a new import with the template (and the three item column).

We are in great hopes that ShippingEasy can reduce our data entry time by having the unit cost field import from Shopify.

I'm more interested in product pricing being exported back to the stores from individual products.  I have 3 stores, and my customer prices change frequently.  I then have to go to all 3 stores and change my prices.  This is very inconvenient.  Can we please have this update?

Thank you

Ann
