International Fedex: Default settings for Customs Duties and Taxes

Completed

CAN SOMEBODY GET A CLUE HERE ?

It makes perfect sense that the program default to choosing the shipper as the one who pays for the shipment.

It makes no sense that the program default to choosing the shipper as the one who pays duties and taxes on behalf of the recipient. (Yes, I know that I can choose otherwise…but does every employee of every user of SHIPPING EASY get it right most of the time?)

How many businesses want to do pay taxes which a buyer should normally pay?

For example, If SHIPPING EASY sends a scale to a customer in Canada, does SHIPPING EASY want to pay VAT and GST for the recipient?

This is a formal request that you change the default setting.

Dennis,

This is a good suggestion. Recently, we did change the program to offer an option to charge the duties/taxes to the customer whereas before, there was no option. What it sounds like to me is that you want a setting for your international orders, or a rule, that defaults the duties/taxes to the recipient. I will forward that suggestion to our developers.

FedEx Default: Billing > Customs Duties Paid By:

I need the ability to set the Customs Duties Paid By: to Receiver instead of Sender. We just got hit with thousands of dollars in Duties and didn't know it. We need this done ASAP if we are going to continue shipping out International packages via FedEx.

The fact that you cannot set the default for duties to recipient has cost us literally thousands of dollars at this point. I cannot keep losing money. Love Ship Easy's features but this one is a deal breaker. Guess we will have to go to the competition...... sad...

Hi Chris an Andre,

So sorry for the delay in response. After checking into this further, I see that this is not the first time we've come across this request and as such, our developers are looking into possible options to add this in. There are a few other features we're also looking into for FedEx, so please keep an eye on each associated feature request thread for individual updates. Thanks!

Yes this needs to default to bill recipient. We have been hit with thousands in international shipping fees through our FedEx account. We are losing money on our orders because of this one setting. We are seriously considering switching.

Hi Hans,

I'm sorry to hear that you are considering a switch. We're still looking into this as an option but it has not yet made our prioritization list. We'll be sure to update this thread though when we do! Thanks for your patience.

I need option on both UPS and Fedex to make default selection for Duties - we only ship/export DDU

This should definitely be updated. I asked about this a year or two ago.

Not being a default is really stupid, who is going to pay a foreign countries taxes? Makes no sense at all and would be an easy fix for shipping easy.

I've been asking about this for several months now and finally someone in the chat sends me the correct link in the forum and here I am.  Unbelievable that it was started 3 years ago!!! I am in agreement with all the others who commented. We have lost thousands of dollars mistakenly or accidentally selecting "Shipper" and not "receiver" to pay duties and tax. I really don't want to have to move our business but if 3 years have gone by and nothing has happened yet, that is certainly my plan in the new year. Yes, too bad for us.  Switching software is a big pain but so is losing money!

I have had the same issue where the default setting in the app is to bill the Sender and not the Recipient for duties! This is not right. What is the problem?

This is one of the biggest problems we've had with Shipping Easy so far. For Fedex international the default recipient is set to sender. I really don't need to say much more.. but before we were aware of this we sent out a number of batch shipments without fully understanding or knowing we needed to change it. This cost the company A LOT of $$. Also if someone mistakenly forgets to change it, we are also of course charged for the recipients import fees. In what scenario an online retailer is paying import fees for their customers I'm not sure, but we have never sent out a single order that way (at least not intentionally).

The response has been pretty lackluster. Nobody seems to be taking any action because this appears to be a years long issue. Nor has anyone been able to tell us why it can't be changed.

At the very least, a layman's explanation from the devs is in order. If it's an issue with the software architecture we would like to know. Otherwise it just feels like it's not important to Shipping Easy, nor do they seem to care that we lost so much money. Just poor design, and in this case a total customer service fail.

Please Please change this.

Hi everyone!

Thanks so much for all the upvotes! We definitely hear you and are working to get this released. At this time, we don't have a specific release date for this feature but it is on our team's list to prioritize.

Thanks!
