Easier modification of customs form

We pad our shipping weights on the source stores to give enough weight for packaging.  This often results in the customs weight being off, especially with multiple items and requires editing the form.  OK, no problem, but why do we have to refill all of the fields to edit just one?  We pay for an automation app like this to avoid that type of manual entry, please bubble down the existing information so we can just edit the fields needing editing.

Hi Bill - Thanks for the feedback.

I want to make sure that I fully understand the extra steps that you're describing. When editing customs forms, you should see something like this:

I've highlighted a couple options that you have for editing customs forms. The "Override Customs Form" button allows you to set a single line item, which describes the entire contents. While clicking "View" displays the details of the line item, which can be edited to the correct weights.

Are you currently using either of these methods when you're prompted to refill the fields? If not, which edit options are you selecting that requires you to refill the fields?

On a related note - the Products Catalog is a tool that can help tremendously with customs forms. ShippingEasy will use the following fields to populate your customs forms and override the information that synced from your store:

  • Description
  • Harmonized code
  • Declared Value
  • Country of Manufacture

Thanks for your response.  Since I don't have any open international orders right now to look at the image you provided is very helpful.  I have been using the Override button because I didn't see any other way to do this, its not very intuitive to click on "View" in order to "Edit" I think.  We average about 1 international order per day, I will watch for 1 coming in and flag it to demonstrate this for my shipping person.

I have seen the custom catalog but haven't used it since most of our items are low quantity and adding the information to catalog isn't likely to provide any future value.  However, I didn't know about the csv file option and that might work for me since I use a spreadsheet to enter listing information and then generate csv files automatically for upload to eBay, Amazon and Shopify.  I should be able to modify that process to generate the Catalog csv file and at least have new items added with minimal extra time required.

Thanks

Hi Bill - It sounds like you have a good plan. Have you had a chance to try this "view" method to edit the Customs Information? Or gone further with your ideas to upload the CSV file to the Products catalog?

In case others aren't familiar with the process of uploading a CSV file to the Products catalog, I'd like to include these links for reference:
