Manual Order Entry - Entering the "item" name that doesn't exist in the inventory list

When you enter an order manually there is field called "item". When you start typing the name of the item in that field the system gives you suggestions from the inventory list. However, when you don't enter the merchandise name as it is exactly in the inventory list then it still allows you to create an order. I wonder if there is any solution to this? (e.g. not being able to enter a product name that is not in the inventory).

Currently, let's say, we have a product in the inventory list that is called ABCD. And If by mistake we start typing BCD, the system doesn't suggest ABCD. So, you end up creating the order with a new product called BCD. This doesn't exist in the inventory list. What happens next?

Hi there,

Thank you very much for participating in our inventory management beta and for your post.

At this time we do not restrict adding products from outside your product catalog on the manual order form. The reason for this is that we have a lot of customers who use the manual order form that do not use our product catalog. So, we do not want to restrict adding products for these customers. In saying that, I can understand that someone like yourself who is using our inventory solution might want to be more careful when adding products to this form - to ensure that stock adjustments are made to the correct product(s).

If you were to add a product to the manual order form that was not saved in your product catalog then this would have no affect on your inventory. If a SKU does not exist in the product catalog then no stock adjustments can be made. So, in your example your stock count for ABCD may be off by one as no adjustments would have been made for the manual order.

As will cannot restrict entering product names that are in product catalog we will need to think of another solution to your problem. If there are other inventory customers that request a similar feature we will direct them to this post to follow or post other suggestions. When we have another solution, we will post an update back to this thread.
