USPS refund for returned item

I have a package shipped via USPS that was returned withe the following notice:

RETURN TO SENDER

INSUFFICIENT ADDRESS

UNABLE TO FORWARD

RETURN TO SENDER

i have confirmed that the address is valid and that USPS.com fully recognizes the address as a valid delivery address.

I am assuming that this is an error on the part of the local delivery but i am not sure how to get them to pay for the postage they failed to deliver.

Hi Allan,

Thank you for posting to our forum!

I'm sorry to hear you had an issues with non-delivery for a shipment.  I would recommend contacting the Carrier (USPS) directly in this case.  Here is their contact page for your reference:  https://www.usps.com/help/contact-us.htm

If you would like me to double check the Ship To address, please provide that in the comments below.  Please note I typically use this tool as it is what our address validation system is based on:  https://tools.usps.com/go/ZipLookupAction!input.action

Hi Allan,

Using the USPS Lookup tool:  https://tools.usps.com/go/ZipLookupAction!input.action

I see there are multiple entries for that address.  The one listed for Allen Uniform shows as:

ALLEN UNIFORM
385 MAIN ST REAR 3
SOUTH PORTLAND ME 04106-5455

I would recommend reaching out to the USPS to see if delivery will occur with that address and if they can do anything about the returned shipment.  In my experience, they likely will not refund.  The reason for this is because shipping carriers provide a service, to send your package from one destination to another within a specified timeframe. When your package enters the delivery “stream” then it considered shipped and the carriers have done their job, so you cannot get a refund on that label.

If you find that you need to create a new label with the edited address, please follow the steps listed in the article linked below.  Step 6 is where you will make your edits:  How to: Create a unique duplicate label
