Ready To Ship page should show States...not Cities in the To and From preview bar

When you move an order to Ready To Ship, that is the place where you determine the shipping method, and see the costs to decide between Regional Rate and Flat Rate boxes based on the location.  Currently, the preview bar shows a FROM and a TO, and the city for each one.   The FROM, shows my name and city, and the TO shows the Customer Name and then the CITY where they live.  That should be changed to the STATE where they live.  If the STATE was displayed, I could quickly choose which shipping option to use without expanding the box in order to see which state it is.

For example:  by currently showing only the CITY, if I have an order for RIVERSIDE...I will have no clue where to ship it.  The city of Riverside is in 46 out of 50 States in the US.  (Fun fact for you).  But if the STATE was displayed, then I would immediately know if I need a Regional Rate for TN, or a Flat Rate for California.  Showing the State versus the City just seems to make sense, and would definitely make....shipping easy.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Troy,

Thanks for the suggestion.  One reason we display city instead of state is because for international addresses, there are countries that do not have states/provinces.  So to keep things consistent, we display city for both domestic and international addresses.

Two questions:

  1. If we change so that we are displaying state for domestic addresses would your preference be that we continue to display city for international addresses?

  2. Would it be possible to automate the selection that you are currently doing on the Ready to Ship screen?  What I'm thinking of is that in our Shipping Rules feature, we have a condition for Zone.  We put it in for situations that match yours - some addresses you want to use a regional rate box, others you want to use a flat rate.  Would you be able to make that decision based on regional rate Zone instead of specific state?  If so, it seems our Shipping Rule condition for Zone might be a good solution - you could use it in a Shipping Rule that sets a Saved Carrier Selection for the shipment.

Thanks,

Hi Gregg,

Thanks for taking the time to get back to me.  Ideally, I'd like to do everything from the Orders screen, and not have to go to the Ready to Ship screen at all.  It seems redundant to search for an order on the Orders screen, then move it to Ready to Ship, then search for it again and print it out.  One solution would be to have the shipping cost displayed on the Orders screen for the Quick Ship option before shipping it out.  But here's the answers to your questions.

1.  Honestly, I think the real question is how many of your customers use international shipments, and what percentage of their volume goes international?  For me, I'm only doing about 5 orders per month, so it is definitely the exception to the rule, and not the norm.  Especially now with ebay's Global Shipping Program, if an international buyer wants to order from me, I don't ship it directly to the customer, I ship it to their Kentucky warehouse and I don't even have to fill out the customs forms.  I expect extra work when I ship internationally because I know that even if the customs forms are pre-filled, I'll still have to double check them.  But on daily orders that make up 95% of my time, I'd prefer the State listed to expedite the process.  But it depends on your EasyShipping customers, maybe they mostly ship internationally? Maybe you need a Ready To Ship Internationally button?

2,  Rules - that may be a good option, but I haven't played around with it enough to say either way.  The key would be having the shipping COST on the Orders page. I hate to keep referencing Stamps.com, but that is what I've used for the past 4 years.  They have all of your orders in one spot on one page and then you just change the shipping for each one and ship it out.  On ShippingEasy, I still can't see the efficiency of finding all the orders to ship out, then switching to another page, then finding them again and shipping them out.  But I'm still learning your system.  Thanks again for responding, and for making a great product!
