Shipping Rule to split an order automatically

Many of or part numbers have two different package. Create a shipping rule to split an order automatically with multiple packages.

Hi there!

What an excellent request! What would you want to base this rule on? For instance: If ______ then split the order. This is a bit of a complicated feature as it has many working parts and would need to know how many packages to split the order into - many of our shippers do not just split into 2 shipments, but sometimes 3 or 4, or more. I can foresee the rule being formatted something like this: If the SKU is equal to XYZ, then split into ____ amount of shipments. Of course, I am not a developer so I am not sure if this would work, but I would be happy to forward the feature request to our Product Team!

IF _______________ Part no. and Qty.__________ then split order

2 or 3 or 4

Same categories

2 or 3 or 4 _____________ (eg medium Flat rate box )

Different category ____________ (medium FR)_____(one Regional Rate A)

Etc.

You can start with splitting into just two and may add 3 and 4 later

I could use this feature too! When you choose Split Order there's no field to say how many orders to split it into, it just splits the orders so that each individual item becomes a separate order (multiples of a single item don't get split, you'd have to use Split Quantity, which is good for my purposes). Therefore, the only thing I think it would need is a "Then" action for "Split orders".
Then the Rule would just be "If description is equal to 'Multiple Items', then split orders."

Thank you very much for your feedback. We are investigating the option to add a shipping rule for this- but as there are many use cases for the rule it requires quite a bit of consideration.
