Custom variant attribute

To fully describe our product variants we need additional variant attributes.

Many products such as eyewear require custom variant attributes such as lens type / color, prescription strength, etc. Please add ability to add attributes beyond color, size and material only.

A multi-channel inventory tracking system, as a central tracking repository, should also allow reporting by product variant attributes.

Hi Adam,

Thank you for your feedback. We're excited to launch our new Inventory solution and plan to continue to make updates to the application over the coming weeks and months. I've added a request to our inventory queue to add custom variant attributes to our product variants.

As of now, we are still accepting all requests and feedback before making decisions on the next features to focus on. We will direct any customers with similar requests to comment or follow on this post as well. Feedback helps us to learn how many customers are interested in each feature and prioritize what we should work on next.

I second this! This, again, is just common sense.  I am just now spending time using the inventory feature in Shipping Easy and I do not mean to be critical or condescending.

As I get into this, understanding that inventory management isn't your forte, some of these things just seem like common sense.  Like being able to add custom attributes.

Also, I don't mean to try to tell you how to run your business either, but here I go.  Adding features only when you receive enough online requests is totally lame.  A lame excuse if I may.  If you receive a request from a customer for a feature, and it's not completely dumb, look at it and determine if this is simple or adds value to the platform.  You can make these determinations.  Many business owners do not and will not take the time to create an account and log in to second account to request or ask for the same thing someone has already asked for. They are busy trying to run their business.  I am merely taking the time today because I am beginning to put a lot of time into your inventory management and hope I don't end up wasting my time.  It is important to me, and I am positive it is important to others that will not create an account and/or log in to comment, to see some investment or some excitement or eagerness to improve your product proactively.  Like adding a custom attribute feature.  Or even this.  Just a "Notes" form on each product where you could maybe put an attribute or a comment box.  You could use this as a work-around perhaps.  This seems like a very simple thing to do and would add a lot of value.

I again apologize if I come across crass or condescending.  I am not a diplomat.  I go out of my way everyday to please my customers and follow their lead when asked for special requests and get my customers what they want.  If you can't do something or don't want to do something, just say so and stand behind it.  "This is why we don't want to add this feature," "adding this feature causes this problem", "we can't add this feature because"...

I will finish my soap box tirade with this:

I like Shipping Easy, I came to Shipping Easy from Shipstation because they have a very troublesome problem that they, for unknown reasons, don't want to fix.  I know you guys are owned by the same company by the way.  But, they have this problem, when you change the printer settings as a user, the printer settings change globally.  For all users.  This is problematic because if you have multiple users who may use different types of printers or labels, you have to change the settings EVERYTIME you print something.  For real?  This was a deal breaker.  Like for reals!!!!

Anyway, I like Shipping Easy...now.  And it can work for us for a long time even as our business grows.  Please just show us that you are eager to improve and consider feature requests seriously.  Expecting business owners to essentially create a second account and log in to say, hey I agree with this guy, is frankly, lame.  We all have enough User IDs and Passwords!  If someone requested a feature, that should be enough for you to look at it seriously and make a determination if it has value or not.

Bye now.

UPDATE: ShippingEasy retired the Inventory Management subscription in June of 2020. Our Product Catalog stores a comprehensive list of the products you sell and allows you to add your product information to leverage product and SKU details to ship more efficiently. Learn more about our Product Catalog.

Existing Inventory Management subscribers will still have the ability to use the features specific to Inventory Management, however, we are no longer supporting new subscribers.
