Add "Adult Signature" to Shipments - Shipping Rules

Shipping Rules are an option to automate the handling of your orders, ensuring that your preferences are applied regardless of who is shipping. A common rule would be configured to automatically add "Adult Signature" confirmation to your Priority Mail shipments.

For products that require an Adult Signature, this can be a huge time saver. No more adding confirmation to individual orders! However, it's important to keep in mind that Adult Signature is only available on some services. Learn more about confirmation options for shipments.

In this example, we ship beverages, including wine, which must be signed for by an adult. We also provide our customers with options to request a shipping service, so we'll limit this rule to apply to orders with specific requested services, too.

Tip

If you have a Shipping Rule that applies your Shipping Presets based on requested service, put the rule for the Adult Signature option after the rule for the Shipping Preset.

Use this rule as a launching point to customize the IF conditions based on your specific products and store configuration:

  1. Go to SETTINGS then go to SHIPPING RULES.

  2. Click the blue Add New Rule button.

  3. In the field Rule Name, enter a name that describes the rule.

    For example, "Adult Signature."

  4. Set the "IF" condition to the variable that defines the requirement for Adult Signature.

    • Requested service | Is equal to | Priority Mail

    Remember, we ship wine and have requested services assigned to orders. So, we will use the Item description and Requested service as the conditions to assign Adult Signature:

  5. Set the "THEN" action to then Set confirmation option and choose your selection from the dropdown.

  6. Save your new rule.

Note

You will want to move this Shipping Rule beneath the Shipping Rule that applies the Priority Mail Shipping Preset to the order. This way, the Priority Mail service will already be applied to the order and the system can add the Adult Signature. Learn more about organizing your shipping rules.
