Product Catalog | FAQs

The ShippingEasy Product Catalog stores a comprehensive list of the products you sell. Adding your product information into the Product Catalog allows you to leverage product and SKU details across useful tools and features, such as:

  • Shipping Rules

  • Pick Lists

  • Packing Slips

  • Shipping Confirmation Emails

  • Shipping Labels

Most of all, the Product Catalog is an efficient way to maintain product data for all your stores. There is no limit to the number of products you can have. Add products one at a time via the Add Product button or upload them via a CSV file using the Upload Products tool. Learn how to add products to your catalog.

Features restricted to Inventory Management subscribers

Many Product Catalog features are available to all ShippingEasy users. However, the following are restricted to current Inventory Management subscribers:

  • Stock tracking, including: Low Stock Threshold, Safety Limit, Max Available

  • Supplier management

  • Purchase orders

  • Velocity, forecasting, and reporting

ShippingEasy is no longer supporting new Inventory Management subscribers.

Will my products automatically upload to the Product Catalog from my store?

  • Amazon

  • BigCommerce

  • eBay

  • Etsy

  • Ecwid

  • Magento

  • Shopify

  • Volusion

What data is synced into ShippingEasy when Importing Products from my store?

During a Product Import, the following data is synced to your Product Catalog:

  • Item Name

  • Item

  • SKU

  • Product Weight

  • Image

  • Declared Value

Importing Products from your store is the fastest way to add new ProductSKUs to your Product Catalog. Learn how to Import Products.

How do I see what stores my products are listed on?

On each Product Details page, there is a "Stores" tab that lists the stores the product is linked to. Products that are linked to 2 or more stores will show all active stores. Learn how to link your Product Catalogs SKUs to your store.

How do I update the items in my Product Catalog?

Edit individual items:

Edit individual items by clicking the notepad icon next to the item listing. Learn how to edit product details.

Download your catalog and upload an edited file:

When you upload a CSV file, ShippingEasy will look for matching SKUs and then override any new data found in the file, unless you have selected that certain SKUs override store data. Learn how to override the product name.

  1. Click the Download Product link to retrieve a CSV file of your existing Product Catalog.

  2. Edit the file you downloaded with a spreadsheet editor.

  3. Save your edited file as a CSV file.

  4. Upload the CSV file back to ShippingEasy. Learn how to upload your product CSV to the catalog.

How is Product data used to update my orders?

If there is a Product entry that matches the SKU on a new order, ShippingEasy will use the following saved data fields to override the data synced from your store for the specific SKU:

  • Weight

  • Declared Value

  • Image

  • Warehouse Bin

  • Variant Information

Customs form product data will update, including:

  • Description

  • Harmonized Code

  • Declared Value

  • Country of Manufacture

Existing Inventory Management subscribers that have stock levels updated on store listings will override the data of the matching SKU in ShippingEasy.

How can I keep my products from being added to the Product Catalog?

You can disable automatic Product Catalog uploads by going to SETTINGS > STORES & ORDERS > Select your store and go to the PRODUCTS tab. Uncheck the Add Products Automatically box.

Do I need to format Product SKUs before uploading?

Most likely not. Most Product SKUs are supported by ShippingEasy, however specific types of characters are not:

  • Numbers

  • Letters

  • Leading zeros (0)

Special characters and punctuation marks are not supported within Product SKUs. Using these will cause errors.

Are Product SKUs case sensitive?

No. Product SKUs are not case sensitive. For example, "4009TAN" is considered the same SKU as "4009tan".

Can I group Product SKUs?

Yes. Product Categories are a tool for grouping your products. This opens a range of possibilities for configuring more powerful Shipping Rules and helps you update multiple products at a time. Learn more about Product Categories.

Why assign weights and dimensions to Products?

There are a lot of benefits to assigning weights and dimensions to products.

Weight

Assigning weights ensures that your weights are accurate where it matters most - when you are comparing rates.

When your orders sync from your store, ShippingEasy will compare the SKUs from your order line items with your product listings. If there is a match, the weight listed in your Product Catalog will override the weight synced from your store.

If your orders sync without weights or the weight listed in your store is wrong, setting weights for your products will prevent incorrect rates from being applied.

Dimensions

Many shipping services have maximum girth requirements, a special dimensional measurement, equal to (2 x width) + (2 x height). When dimensions are provided, ShippingEasy will automatically calculate the girth of your shipments to ensure that they meet service requirements. Learn more about package dimensions.

Dimensions are also helpful when using Shipping Presets. Learn about Shipping Presets.

When using a Shipping preset that specifies carrier, service, and (custom) "Package" as the packaging type, dimensions will automatically be applied to single line item orders on the Order Details slideout for you.

Which weight takes precedence if I'm using BOTH the Product weight and Shipping Rules?

If you have a Shipping Rule defined to set the weight and it applies to the order, then ShippingEasy will use the weight from the Shipping Rule. While the Product entry overrides the information from the store, a Shipping Rule can override the Product entry.  Learn more about Shipping Rules.

What Product Details does ShippingEasy show?

ShippingEasy allows you to keep track of several details about your products to help you stay organized. View the full list of which product details are available on our Product Details Page Guide.

Why should I upload Product Images?

The image associated with each product listing can be mapped to your packing slips and emails. Learn more about uploading product images as well as adding product images to packing slips or adding them to emails.

Why should I include a Warehouse Bin?

When you assign a warehouse bin to products, that helps your team to pick and pack more efficiently! If your orders sync without warehouse locations, you can configure this data in your product listings to ensure that your packing slips and pick lists are fully populated with your product locations.

Why assign customs form product data to my orders?

Make international shipping a breeze and avoid updating customs information on an order-by-order basis. Accurate customs forms help shipments speed through international customs and ensure that duties and tariffs are correct.

Why do I see a # for my product data instead of a number?

When a variant group has more than 10 products, we display a # in the stock-related columns. Showing a single character allows for faster page loading.
