UPS Declared Value | Overview

UPS provides maximum liability coverage for shipments up to $100 in value. This coverage is called "Declared Value." Items worth $100 or less can be claimed for up to that amount if they result in a lost, stolen, or damaged shipment.

UPS's maximum liability for shipments without a declared value is $100 for damages or losses at no cost.

For shipments valued over $100, you can declare a higher item value when creating the shipping label. UPS has an additional charge for a declared value over $100. View UPS Value-Added Services PDF page 121.

Notes About UPS Declared Value Coverage

  • For multi-box shipments, the UPS Declared Value is applied to each box in the shipment.

For example, if you specify $150 as the declared value and there are three boxes in the shipment, then the declared value for each box is $150 ($450 total for the order).

  • UPS Declared Value covers the item value only. It does not include packing materials or shipping costs unless your item was packaged and shipped at a UPS store.

Packages processed at a UPS store that resulted in a loss or incurred damage can receive the full declared value of the shipment and materials stated at the time of the transaction.
