Combine and Split Orders | FAQs

If you have multiple orders that are all shipping to the same address, you can combine them into a single shipment to save time and money.

If you need to send an order in multiple shipments because it is too large for one package or if inventory is not yet available, you can split a single order by line items or split the quantities of a single line item.

Here, we answer common questions about combining and splitting orders.

Combining Orders

ShippingEasy makes it easy to combine multiple orders from a customer if they are going to the same address. This allows you to consolidate orders into a single shipment and save shipping and packing costs. Learn how to combine orders in ShippingEasy.

Can I combine orders from different stores?

No. Orders from different stores cannot be combined.

Can I combine orders that I've split in ShippingEasy?

Yes! You can reconsolidate split orders going to the same address back into a single shipment.

Check the boxes next to the orders that have been split on the ORDERS page. Click the More button and select Combine Orders. Choose Selected to combine orders that are from the same store.

Once you have selected orders to combine, a window will appear asking for your preferred recipient/address for this order. This is the "surviving order" that will retain the order number, order date, and recipient address. Select the preferred recipient and click Confirm.

If you choose to combine orders All in View with Same Recipient, a window will appear asking you to confirm your selection, as this action cannot be undone.

Where are email notifications sent for combined orders?

The shipment confirmation email will be sent to the email address on the surviving order and will contain the order data for the surviving order.

What happens to the line items when I combine orders?

All of the line items from the orders will appear together in the combined order.

Combining orders in ShippingEasy will also combine the order total amounts. The newly combined order will display the combined totals for shipping paid, sales tax, subtotal, discount, and order total.

Note

If the orders being combined had previously been split from the same order, the total amounts are not combined to avoid double-counting.

What happens to my packing slip when I combine orders?

If you use packing slips in ShippingEasy, we do not recommend using them as invoices. If you combine orders regularly, it may be advisable to edit your templates to exclude order Subtotals and/or Totals. Learn more about customizing packing slips.

What happens to a category tag when an order is combined?

When you combine categorized orders, they lose their category. The orders will no longer have the color-coding included. If you would like the category to be included, you will need to add it back in. Learn more about categorizing orders with tags.

Which order survives when I select orders to combine on the ORDERS page?

When using the All in View with Same Recipient option to combine orders for duplicate recipients, the oldest order is the surviving order.

When combining orders manually, the FIRST order you select is the surviving order.

For example, if you select order 154 first and then order 153 and combine, the surviving order is 154. Alternately, if you click order 153 first, then 154, order 153 survives.

If you combine orders to two different addresses, then the order you choose as the preferred recipient/address is the surviving order.

Splitting Orders FAQs

ShippingEasy supports splitting orders containing multiple line items. You can split an order (or split the quantities of a line item into separate orders) to accommodate changes in stock, different shipping locations, and multiple packaging needs. Learn how to split orders in ShippingEasy.

When an order is split, is a confirmation email sent when each part of the order ships?

Yes. Confirmation emails will be sent for each shipment, as long as the shipments have their own unique labels.

Note

The exception to the rule is UPS and FedEx multi-box shipments, for which ShippingEasy will send a single email for all labels printed.

What happens to a category tag when an order is split?
