Create a Product Category

Keeping track of hundreds, or even thousands, of Products in your inventory, can be a lot of work. So we have made it easier with Product Categories. Think of a Product Category as a "Master SKU" that you can assign to multiple Product SKUs. Product Categories expand the possibilities of Shipping Rules, streamline custom forms, and make managing stock levels easier:

  • Shipping Rules: Without Product Categories, you could write a Shipping Rule that acts on orders based on individual SKUs. However, if you sell many similar Products, each with a unique SKU, you can use a Product Category to apply that same action to a wider range of Products. Learn how the Product Category rule works.

  • Customs Forms: Simplify international shipping by saving pertinent customs information, such as item description, harmonized code, country of manufacture, and declared value. Rather than managing this data for individual Products, group similar SKUs with a Product Category for easy updates in the future. Learn how to use Product Categories with Custom Forms.

  • Stock Levels: When Products are grouped - such as by type, location, or Supplier - you can quickly filter to these Products in your Product Catalog to view the stock levels across those related Product SKUs. This simplifies inventory reconciliation and restocking.

Create Product Category Steps

You can quickly and easily set up custom categories following these steps:

  1. Navigate to the SETTINGS icon from anywhere in the ShippingEasy app.

  2. Select the PRODUCT CATEGORIES SETUP page from below the SHIPMENT SETTINGS menu.

  3. Click + Add Category button in the top right-hand corner. You will be brought to a new page where you can customize the category.

  4. Enter in the information for the Product Category.

  5. Click Save Product Category.

  6. Make any updates on the category's detail page to review if necessary.

That's it! Now you can assign Products to the Product Category and easily manage similar items.

Edit or Remove Product Categories

Once you've created a Product Category, making any edits to that category is easy!

  1. Navigate to the SETTINGS icon from anywhere in the ShippingEasy app.

  2. Select the PRODUCT CATEGORIES SETUP page from below the SHIPMENT SETTINGS menu.

  3. Locate the Product Category that you would like to edit and click the Product Category's name.

  4. Expand the Actions menu and select Edit Product Category to edit the category or Delete Product Category to remove it.

  5. Make any necessary changes then click Save Product Category.
