USPS Domestic Service Details

ShippingEasy supports the following USPS domestic services:

  • USPS First-Class Mail

  • USPS Media Mail

  • USPS Ground Advantage (formerly First-Class Package Service and Parcel Select Ground)

  • USPS Priority Mail

  • USPS Priority Mail Express

The service that best meets your shipping needs will vary based on the weight and dimensions of your package, how quickly you would like the package to be delivered, and other factors.

USPS First-Class Mail

USPS First-Class Mail is an affordable service for sending lightweight packages weighing less than 1 lb.

Maximum Package Weight:

  • Small packages: 15.99 oz.

  • Large Envelopes/Flats: 13 oz.

Package Dimension Limits:

  • Maximum Dimensions for Domestic shipments: 22" x 18" x 15" (LxWxH)

  • Minimum Dimensions: No package may be smaller than 5" x 3.5" x 0.007". Machinable packages may not be smaller than 6" x 3" x 0.25".

Delivery Timeline: 1-5 business days. (This is not a guaranteed service; delivery may be delayed.)

Confirmation Options: Delivery confirmation (tracking) is included for free on all domestic shipments. Signature confirmation is available for an added fee.

Tracking Not Available for Large Envelopes/Flats

Large Envelopes/Flats shipped via USPS First-Class Mail are not eligible for tracking. Tracking numbers are included with USPS Priority Mail shipments.

USPS Media Mail

Media Mail is an economic solution for shipping books, educational materials, vinyl records, and more.

According to USPS, the following media are allowed to be shipped using Media Mail:

  • Books (at least 8 pages)

  • Sound recordings and video recordings, such as CDs and DVDs

  • Play scripts and manuscripts for books, periodicals, and music

  • Printed music

  • Computer-readable media containing prerecorded information and guides or scripts prepared solely for use with such media

  • Sixteen millimeters or narrower width films

  • Printed objective test materials and their accessories

  • Printed educational reference charts

  • Loose-leaf pages and their binders consisting of medical information for distribution to doctors, hospitals, medical schools, and medical students

Maximum Package Weight:

  • Domestic shipments: 70 lbs.

Package Dimension Limits:

  • The maximum combined length and girth is 108".

    This means that the combined measurement of the longest side and the distance around the thickest part of the package cannot be more than 108".

Delivery Timeline: 2-8 business days. (This is not a guaranteed service; delivery may be delayed.)

Confirmation Options: Delivery confirmation (tracking) is included for free on all domestic shipments. Signature confirmation is available for an added fee.

Restrictions: This is a closely regulated service, and packages using the Media Mail rate cannot contain advertising, computer drives, digital drives, or video games of any kind.

Due to the heavy restrictions of Media Mail, the USPS retains the right to open and inspect packages to check for abuse of the system. If contents violate Media Mail guidelines, then the package may be returned due to insufficient postage or the postage difference may be billed to the payor of the postage.

USPS Ground Advantage (formerly First-Class Package and Parcel Select Ground)

Starting July 9th, 2023, the USPS is combining its domestic First-Class Package Service, Parcel Select Ground, and Retail Ground services into a single service called USPS Ground Advantage.

Grace Period for First-Class Package and Parcel Select Labels

If you have any outbound or return labels connected to the services that will no longer be available, the USPS will continue to accept and process those labels until September 30, 2023.

Ground Advantage (formerly First-Class Package and Parcel Select Ground) is one of the least expensive services that USPS offers. As USPS's ground service, Ground Advantage is the best method for shipping items that are not permitted on airplanes and for packages that have dimensions exceeding the limits of other services.

Combined with longer transit time, the shipment will be handled more than shipments that are sent through any of the air services offered by USPS. Be sure to pack properly.

  • Domestic shipments: 70 lbs.

Package Dimension Limits:

  • The maximum combined length and girth is 130".

    This means that the combined measurement of the longest side and the distance around the thickest part of the package cannot be more than 130".

Delivery Timeline: 2-5 business days. (This is not a guaranteed service; delivery may be delayed.)

Confirmation Options:

  • Delivery confirmation (tracking) is included for free on all domestic shipments.

  • Signature Confirmation and Adult Signature Confirmation are available for an added fee.

USPS Priority Mail

Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express represent the best in USPS shipping.

Priority Mail is USPS's standard air service. It is compatible with USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Products.

Maximum Package Weight:

  • Domestic shipments: 70 lbs.

Package Dimension Limits:

  • The maximum combined length and girth is 108".

    This means that the combined measurement of the longest side and the distance around the thickest part of the package cannot be more than 108".

  • Machinable packages may be no larger than 27" x 17" x 17" (LxWxH).

Delivery Timeline: 1-3 business days. (This is not a guaranteed service; delivery may be delayed.)

Confirmation Options:

  • Delivery confirmation (tracking) is included for free on all domestic shipments.

  • Signature Confirmation and Adult Signature Confirmation are available for an added fee.

USPS Priority Mail Express

Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express represent the best in USPS shipping.

Formerly known as Express Mail, Priority Mail Express is USPS's fastest shipping service. It is compatible with USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Products.

  • Domestic shipments: 70 lbs.

USPS Delivery Guarantee

Depending on the distance a Priority Mail Express shipment must travel, USPS will make a service commitment of 1 to 3 business days for domestic shipments.

Shipments going to or originating from Alaska or Hawaii are not eligible for Priority Mail Express delivery guarantee.

If the package is delivered after the guaranteed delivery date, you can apply for a refund of the postage paid.

Refunds claims must be filed at the Post Office where you dropped off the package.
