Collect Marketing Contacts in Shopify | How To

Customer Marketing can automatically collect customer emails for marketing purposes from your Shopify buyers once you have this feature enabled on your store. Customers can subscribe to marketing emails by adding their email address to a newsletter sign-up on your online store, or by checking a box during checkout.

For legal and privacy reasons, make sure that you only send promotional emails to customers who have agreed to receive marketing from your online store.

For more information about how Shopify collects, uses, and stores personal information, refer to their Privacy Policy.

Using the Checkout Experience to Collect Customer Emails

A common way to sign up your customers for marketing emails is during the checkout experience. To enable this feature:

  1. From your Shopify admin portal, go to Settings > Checkout.
  2. In the Email marketing section, check Show a signup option at checkout. This adds a signup checkbox to your checkout experience.
  3. Check Preselect the signup option. This optional feature preselects the email marketing signup box at the checkout for customers without an account. It also preselects the box for customers with accounts who are in the Email subscribers customer list. The box is not preselected at the checkout for customers with accounts who have opted out of email marketing and are not on the Email subscribers customer list.
  4. Click Save.

Once you have allowed for customer signups to occur at checkout, ShippingEasy will automatically import the contact information into Customer Marketing once the order has been received. Customers who have opted out will not have their information imported.

Using your Home Page to Collect Customer Emails

To collect customer emails from your home page, add a newsletter signup section to your online store. With a newsletter signup, you can collect email addresses from your customers and store them on the Email subscribers tab on the Customers page in the Shopify admin.

For help with adding a newsletter section to your online store, see your theme documentation.

After you have added newsletter signups to your Shopify store and you begin to collect contact information, get started building your contact lists so you can email your buyers in Customer Marketing by creating a list.
