Package Setup (Saving Box Settings)

Created:   |   Updated:

If you have consistently sized Boxes that you use on a regular basis, you can save their dimensions inside ShippingEasy under Package Setup so you don’t have to enter them every time they are used.

Keep in mind that you don’t have to add Flat-Rate or Regional-Rate Boxes. Any post-office-issued packaging with a rate associated with it is already in the ShippingEasy platform by default. Note: This post office packaging that does not have a rate associated with it will still need to be added.

Besides the convenience of Saved Box Sizes, this page contains the key to the most significant time saver in shipping, if you know where to look.

If your Product Weights are listed accurately with your Products in Store settings, and you do not attempt to include the weight of the packaging when you are entering your Box Sizes, you can also save the weight of the Box as the add-to weight.

Why is it called the add-to weight? Well, if you attach Packaging Weight to a Product, it’s super convenient, if a customer only orders a quantity one of that product and nothing else.

If not, the weight of the packaging is multiplied by the quantity and number of Line Items. By setting the weight of the Box in ShippingEasy as the add-to weight, it changes from multiplicative into additive, and we just add the Box Weight on after calculating the weight of the products.

What this means for you is that by setting your Product Weights accurately in Store settings, and your Packaging Weights are listed accurately inside ShippingEasy, you never need to weigh another package on the scale before you ship it, and that unlocks the doors to the wonderful world of Shipping Automation that you will find in the Advanced Shipping Setup section of this document.
