FAQs: Previous Selection

Created:   |   Updated:

ShippingEasy remembers the carrier, service and packaging type used for every order that you ship. As new orders - with the same list of products - pull into your account, ShippingEasy will automatically default to the previous shipment selections that you made.

By automatically assigning your previous selections to new orders ShippingEasy is also able to provide rate quotes on the ORDERS page, so that in an instant, you can buy and print those labels. No set up required!

How do previous selections work?

For each order that you ship, ShippingEasy will remember the carrier, service and packaging type so that when another order with the same list of products arrives, ShippingEasy will automatically default to the previous shipment selections that you made.

Hi, can we disable this? It is not really relevant to our process and honestly, now ALL the orders have the little 'thumbs up' icon. That icon used to alert us to check the rate and look at options if available. With it on all of the orders we cannot easily see the larger unit orders to check for rate options.

    Thanks

Hello Sharon, and thank you for posting to our community!

I'm sorry to hear the Previous Selections feature is not working out for you and doesn't seem to be a good fit for your shipping process. This was a new feature we implemented based on an overwhelming amount of requests from our merchants.

While the thumbs-up icon means that ShippingEasy was able to retrieve a rate quote for the order, it hasn't changed in terms of what it indicates.

If you need need to be able to make your larger unit orders stand out, have you considered our Order Categories feature in conjunction with a shipping rule to color code those orders for easy identification. If not, we have guides linked below that can help you with that.

How to: Add a new Order Category

I have linked several of our Shipping Rule guides below that may help you setup a specific rule in your account that works for your needs.

Best of Rules: Categorize orders containing specific products for faster batching

Best of Rules: Assign USPS Priority Mail to packages greater than 1 lb

    FAQs: Shipping Rules / Mapping

I hope that helps to resolve any problems associated with our Previous Selection feature.

    Thank you.

I really need this feature turned off.  We use a combination of what the customer requests and the final weight/size to determine how we want ht package shipped.  We always default our USPS packages for first class mail except where we have it set up otherwise in saved selections and know we only need to change it under certain circumstances.  Now we have packages defaulting for Priority mail because the last customer choose and paid for priority mail.

Please provide a way to turn off this feature if possible, it's a real headache for our company.

Can I edit a previous selection? I mistakenly picked the wrong saved selection and need to change it to a different saved selection.

We would also like to have the ability to disable this feature.  The final shipping decision is determined on what zone the customer is in.  If the zone is close to us, we ship with USPS supplied boxes, other wise, we ship with our boxes.  This decision tree allows us to save on supplies.

In the long run, the previous rate shipping easy remembers, does not dictate the next.

True. For example we can ship an item using USPS Regional Rate Box A, but sometimes is cheaper it ship it by simple USPS Priority by Weight. It would be great if saved selections actually remember what zone the item was going to.

    Hello Stephen!

Thanks for posting to our support center!

At this time, we do not have a way to edit or remove a Previous Selection, however, you could set up a Shipping Rule to apply your Saved Selections to future orders as those override previous selections.  This is mentioned in our FAQs document for Previous Selections:  FAQs: Previous Selection

The steps for creating a Shipping Rule to apply your Saved Selections can be found in our instructional video.

I recommend posting your request for remembering zones and editing previous selections in our Feature Request Forums. Posting there puts your request in front of the Product Team and also allows you to receive an email when the feature has been prioritized and/or released.

Please don't hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions or concerns about this.

    Thank you!

    Hello Joe!

We appreciate you posting to our support center!

You could also use our shipping rules to override the previous selections.   Saved selections set via a shipping rule will override a previous selection on an order. Learn how to assign saved selections via a shipping rule

With that being said, I am reaching out to you regarding your request. Please keep an eye out for my email.

    Thank You!

Wait! Does saved selection know what zone the item is going to? For example I have an item that would be cheaper by WEIGHT for zone 1 or 2. After those zones it would be best to ship Regional Rate Box A.

So. with the same SKU. Does Shipping easy know what zone the item is going to? And will shipping easy use my Previous Selection for that sku to that zone?

This is very important. Can save me so much time. A mistake can cost me thousands of dollars. Please make sure your reply is correct. I have been hearing different stories from different CS reps.

That is not really an option. We can only have a limited amount of rules. Also we then would have to wait for the item to sell for the rule to override the saved selection. What if its an item I only sell once a year? I'm going to forget to delete that rule after the item sells.

I found the best way to fix the problem is to make a fake order using the SKU in question. Then I simply select the correct selection, purchase the label and finally cancel the label.

This method instantly fixes the problem, but I don't think its good for me to have to outsmart your program. Its a great program! But it still needs work

    Hello Stephen!

Thanks for your reply. A zone is determined by the "ship from" zip code as it relates to the "ship to" zip code.  If a weight- or dimensional-based service is selected, then the zone will factor into the overall cost of the service and is applied automatically by ShippingEasy.

I'm going to reach out to you via email to see if I can answer any further questions about the previous selections options enabled on your account.

    Talk to you soon!
