When will USPS services be suspended to Guatemala?
Effective November 29, 2016, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has suspended most mail services to Guatemala. This suspension was expected to be in effect until January 15, 2017. However, as of 2018 many services are still unavailable when shipping to Guatemala.
Why are USPS mail services being suspended to Guatemala?
Correos y Telégrafos de Guatemala (Guatemala Postal Service) requested this suspension of mail service due to staffing and logistical difficulties.
What USPS mail services will be affected?
One USPS service has been approved for shipments to Guatemala during the suspension: Global Express Guaranteed (GXG). GXG is not available from within ShippingEasy. However, you may purchase postage for GXG from your local post office.
Until the suspension is lifted, USPS online postage providers, including ShippingEasy, will be unable to process labels for shipments to Guatemala through the following USPS services:
- First Class Package Service International
- Priority Mail International
- Priority Mail Express International
What will happen in ShippingEasy if I attempt to select a USPS service for a shipment to Guatemala?
ShippingEasy will display the error “service is not available to Guatemala”. If you encounter this error, you have two options:
- Select a service from a different carrier within ShippingEasy.
- Take the parcel to your local Post Office and ship via Global Express Guaranteed.
What will happen if I ship a package via USPS to Guatemala during the suspension?
For items addressed to Guatemala, that have already been deposited and sent via a mail class other than GXG, the Postal Service will endorse them “Mail Service Suspended – Return to Sender” and place them in the mail stream for return.
