How to: Manage Contact Tags

Contact Tags enable you to group your Contacts based on criteria that you define. Add tags that characterize customers as it's relevant to your business. Then use these to filter your Contacts, create Contact Lists, and send Automated Campaigns.

Here are a few ways that you might use Contact Tags:

  • If you have Contacts who responded to a specific marketing Campaign, you can create a tag for that Campaign.
  • If Contacts have expressed an interest in a soon to be released product - you can tag those Contacts. Then easily locate those Contacts later when you are ready to send a Campaign to announce that the product has arrived.
TIP: to filter the Contacts on the CONTACTS page by tag, expand the "Tags" filter and enter the tags you want to use. Learn more about filtering Contacts.

Add Tags

Tags can be added to contacts one-by-one or in bulk.

When managing an individual Contact

  1. From the blue navigation bar, select the MARKETING tab and click CONTACTS from the drop down menu.

  2. On the CONTACTS page, locate the customer you wish to update. Click their name.

  3. On the Customer Details page, click the Manage Tags button.

  4. Type a tag name. If the tag has never been saved before, it will be created after hitting ENTER on your keyboard.

  5. Click the X in the top right of the modal when you are done. The change is saved automatically.

To multiple Contacts from the CONTACTS page

  1. From the blue navigation bar, select the MARKETING tab and click CONTACTS from the drop down menu.

  2. On the CONTACTS page, check the box next to each Contact name that you want to tag.

    TIP: use the filters to narrow down the list to all the Contacts you need to tag. Then select all the Contacts at once. Learn more.
  3. Click the Action button and click Add Tag from the drop down.

  4. Enter the name of the tag and click Submit.

To Contacts from the LISTS page

  1. From the blue navigation bar, select the MARKETING tab and click CONTACTS from the drop down menu.

  2. Click on the "Lists" tab.

  3. Click on the name of the list that you would like to tag contacts in.

  4. Check the box next to the contacts you would like to tag.

  5. Click the Add Tag button.

  6. Type in the tag you would like to use and click "Submit".

Remove Tags

Tags can be removed from contacts one-by-one.

From an individual Contact

  1. From the blue navigation bar, select the MARKETING tab and click CONTACTS from the drop down menu.

  2. On the CONTACTS page, locate the customer you wish to update. Click their name.

  3. On the Contact Details page, click the Manage Tags button.

  4. To remove a tag, click the X next to the tag name.

  5. Click the X in the top right of the modal when you are done. The change is saved automatically.

From Contacts on the CONTACTS page

  1. From the blue navigation bar, select the MARKETING tab and click CONTACTS from the drop down menu.

  2. On the CONTACTS page, check the box next to the customer(s) you wish to update.

  3. Click the Actions button and select "Remove Tag".

  4. In the pop-up modal, check with tags you would like to remove from the contact profile and then click Submit.

Update Tags

Tags can be edited for contacts in bulk, using a CSV file upload.

For multiple Contacts via a CSV file

  1. Download your Contacts contacts. Learn more.
  2. Open the downloaded CSV file.
  3. Review the "Tags" column. Add or remove the tags as needed.

    TIP: some important things to keep in mind when creating the CSV file.

    • Be sure to include all Tags that should be assigned to the customer.
    • You can add tags by re-uploading a CSV with a new tag. Re-uploading a CSV will not remove them.
  4. Save the file in CSV format. Learn more.
