How to: Configure Shopify for gift orders

Many shoppers turn to online stores for their gift purchases. Although Shopify does not provide a standard feature for defining gift orders, you can easily customize your Shopify store so that ShippingEasy will recognize gift orders.

How to: Configure your Shopify store for gift orders

  1. Visit Shopify's cart attribute page.



  2. From the Type of form field menu, select Checkbox.



  3. In the Your form field label field, use text that makes it clear to the buyer that this option indicates a gift; for example, "This is a gift order"



  4. Click the Copy to Clipboard button.



  5. Log into your Shopify store and click on the entry for Online Store.



  6. Click the entry for Themes.



  7. Click the button for Customize theme.



  8. Under the "Theme options", click the entry for Edit HTML/CSS.



  9. Under the list of "Templates", click the entry for cart.liquid.



  10. Scroll down to the </form> tag and insert a couple of blank lines above it.



  11. Paste in the HTML that you copied to the clipboard in step 4.



  12. Change both attribute names to "[Gift]". The names listed in the code will reflect the name you entered in step 3. 
    IMPORTANT: by default, Shopify uses the text you are displaying as the attribute name. For ShippingEasy to recognize the attributes, you must change the names to "Gift"
    For example, locate the two [This is a gift order] entries:



    Then change them to [Gift]:



  13. Click the Save button and you're done!



How to: Configure gift orders so that ShippingEasy syncs your customers' gift messages

  1. Visit Shopify's cart attribute page.



  2. From the Type of form field menu, select Text - long.



  3. In the Your form field label field, use text that makes it clear to the buyer that this field is for a gift message; for example, "Gift Message"



  4. Click the Copy to Clipboard button.



  5. Log into your Shopify store and click on the entry for Online Store.



  6. Click the entry for Themes.



  7. Click the button for Customize theme.



  8. Under the "Theme options", click the entry for Edit HTML/CSS.



  9. Under the list of "Templates", click the entry for cart.liquid.



  10. Scroll down to the </form> tag and insert a couple of blank lines above it.



  11. Paste in the HTML that you copied to the clipboard in step 4.



  12. Verify that the attribute name is "Gift Message" - the name listed in the code will reflect the name you entered in step 3. If it is not "Gift Message" then change it to "Gift Message"
    IMPORTANT: by default, Shopify uses the text you are displaying as the attribute name. For ShippingEasy to recognize the attribute, the attribute name must be either "Gift Message" or "gift-message"




  13. Click the Save button and you're done!
