USPS announces rate changes on April 10th, 2016

The USPS is implementing rate decreases on April 10th, 2016.  In recent years, the Postal Regulatory Commission granted the USPS approval for a temporary price increase on select market-dominant services. This price increase is set to expire, resulting in rate reductions for many services.

The changes affect Retail rates for domestic First Class Mail (letters), First Class Package Service (parcels), Media Mail, and signature confirmation services.

Read through for a summary of changes that will affect ShippingEasy subscribers:

Domestic rate changes:

First Class:

First Class Large Envelope/Flats (1 oz.) rates will decrease to $0.94 (decrease of $0.04 cents per parcel). Each additional ounce will cost $0.21 (decrease $0.01 per 1 oz). View the First Class Mail (Retail) rate table.

First Class Package Service Retail rates will see rate reductions for the 1-3 ounce price range. Retail rates will start at $2.45 (decrease $0.09 per 1-3 oz parcel). View the First Class Package Service rate table.

At the time of this rate change, First Class Package Service Retail rates are lower than Commercial Base (CBP) rates for 1-3 ounce parcels. In order to ensure the lowest rates on First Class Package Service, ShippingEasy offers Retail rates for 1-3 ounce parcels when shipped via First Class Package Service.

Media Mail:

Media Mail rates will decrease about 4%. Rates will start at $2.61 (decrease $0.11 per 1 lb parcel). View the Media Mail (Retail) rate table.

Confirmation option changes:

Signature Confirmation:
The charge for Signature Confirmation on some domestic USPS services is changing from $2.45 to $2.35 (decrease of $0.10 per parcel). This is a reversal of the price increase seen in May 2015. The services affected are Priority Mail, First Class Package Service, Parcel Select Ground, and Media Mail.
