Hover boards can be shipped domestically with USPS via Standard Post/Parcel Select only. Currently, hover boards cannot be mailed internationally, including APO/FPO and DPO.
This notice was released by the USPS on December 17, 2015.
Motorized Balance Board/Hover Board Policy:
Out of an abundance of caution and keeping in line with major retailers and the airline industry, the Postal Service is limiting the shipping of mailable motorized balance boards, or hover boards, domestically.
Effective immediately and until further notice, the Postal Service will ship motorized balance boards or hover boards only using Retail Ground/Parcel Select Ground (ie Standard Post/Parcel Select). These services travel exclusively on ground transportation and reduce the potential safety hazards pertaining to lithium batteries.
For a motorized balance board or hover board, which includes batteries, to be mailable, it must not contain more than 2 batteries and each battery must not exceed 100 Watt hours. A motorized balance board or hover board meeting mailability requirements may only be transported via surface transportation (which differs from normal lithium battery acceptance policy).
This means motorized balance board or hover board can only be mailed using Retail Ground or Parcel Select Ground (ie Standard Post/Parcel Select). Motorized balance boards or hover boards including batteries cannot be mailed internationally, which includes APO/FPO and DPO addresses.
International Inbound Mailers:
Effective immediately and until further notice, the Postal Service will only accept motorized balance boards or hover boards as surface parcels for International inbound only.
