How to: Assign a Product SKU to a Product Category

Product Categories help you manage your Products by grouping together similar SKUs. Use these to set up Shipping Rules, streamline customs forms, or manage stock levels. Assign SKUs to Product Categories one at a time or en mass. 

NOTE: SKUs can only be assigned to existing Product Categories. Learn how to add a Product Category.

How to: Manually assign existing Product SKUs to a Product Category

  1. Navigate to the INVENTORY tab, then select the PRODUCTS page from drop down menu.



  2. On the PRODUCTS page, locate the product you wish to update and click on the blue product name



  3. On the Product details page, expand the Action menu and select Edit product.



  4. On the EDIT Product page, locate the Category field. Then expand the menu to select one of your saved Product Categories.

    TIP: if you'd like to update any of your Product Categories before assigning the SKU, click on the blue "Manage your categories" link.
  5. Click Save Product.

How to: Manually assign new Product SKUs to a Product Category

  1. Navigate to the INVENTORY tab, then select the PRODUCTS page from drop down menu.



  2. On the PRODUCTS page, click the Add Product button next to the item listing.



  3. On the "Add Product" page, enter the details of the listing. 
    NOTE: SKU is required and must not contain any spaces.
  4. Then locate the Category field. Expand the menu to select one of your saved Product Categories.

    TIP: if you'd like to update any of your Product Categories before assigning the SKU, click on the blue "Manage your categories" link.
  5. Click Save Product.

How to: Assign multiple Product SKUs to a Product Category via a CSV upload

  1. Create a CSV file that includes at least two columns: SKUs and Category. In the "Category" column, enter the name of the Product Category that you wish to assign to the SKU. 
    TIP: navigate to SETTINGS >> PRODUCT CATEGORY SETUP to see a list of your saved Product Categories.
    ShippingEasy will use the SKU field to update or add to your records. Learn more about available data fields or download an example CSV file.

  2. With your CSV file ready to go, navigate to the INVENTORY tab, then select the PRODUCTS page from drop down menu.



  3. Click the grey Upload Products link. 



  4. From the CSV file menu, click Browse. After selecting your file, click Upload file.



  5. On the UPLOAD CSV: PRODUCT IMPORT page, map the "Source Column" to the "ShippingEasy Column". Then select Continue.



  6. Your file will be displayed in the "Current Uploads" section.  Once ShippingEasy has finished processing the data, a green READY button will appear.  Click the button.



  7. You'll have the option to review the data and existing SKUs will be highlighted in orange.  Edit any fields that require an additional update by clicking the field.  An edit dialog will appear. 

  8. Once all the data looks in order, click the Complete Upload button.

Your Products have now been assigned to Product Categories!
