What is FedEx SmartPost?

FedEx SmartPost is an efficient and cost-effective way of shipping light-weight packages to the entirety of the United States territories.

By utilizing the United States Post Office (USPS) to strategically finish the delivery of some packages, FedEx is able to get your lightweight shipments to their destination much more efficiently. This type of service is particularly ideal to smaller or more cost-conscious companies such as online retailers and direct marketers.

FedEx requires an agreement from a seller to be able to ship packages through their SmartPost service. This is obtained by contacting your FedEx account manager.

FedEx SmartPost has a 98% on-time delivery for packages that arrive at the proper hubs, where they are handed off to the USPS or other appropriate final delivery service. FedEx SmartPost is a great choice if you have regular light-weight shipments you want delivered in 2-7 business days within the continental U.S. (based on the final destination.) There may be longer shipping times for areas outside the continental U.S.

NOTE: Shipment liability is limited to $100. It’s rare, but should something occur to your shipment and it becomes lost or damaged it can only be compensated by up to $100 without additional third party insurance previously purchased. High value goods such as jewelry and more fragile might be better suited for a shipping service with a precise delivery time and varied insurance options.
