What is a Certificate of Origin?

A Certificate of Origin (CO) authenticates the country of origin of the merchandise being shipped. This is important as each country may have unique Treaty arrangements, restrictions on imports, varying duty rates, and specific handling requirements dependent on the shipment's origin.

How can I create a Certificate of Origin?

UPS provides a digital copy that you can download from the UPS website for goods whose origin is the U.S. or Puerto Rico only. The descriptions and amounts on the CO must be consistent with those entered on the Invoice.

Is a Certificate of Origin required if I'm shipping to Canada or Mexico?
