Just a few examples of how "Shipping Rules" can be used:
- If you know that all incoming orders that have a status of Awaiting Payment should be assigned to a particular category, you can define a shipping rule so that ShippingEasy will do that assignment automatically.
- If all orders that have a specific Requested Service will eventually be shipped using one of your saved carrier selections, define a shipping rule to make that assignment happen automatically.
- If you want to be able to bypass the ORDERS screen completely, you can define a shipping rule that automatically creates a shipment for incoming orders, too, and they will be waiting for you on the READY TO SHIP screen.
Do the Shipping Rules apply to all incoming orders?
Yes. Shipping Rules apply to all new orders that download from your integrated stores and those entered manually.
Do new Shipping Rules or changes made to existing Shipping Rules apply to existing orders?
No. When you add new or make a change to a Shipping Rule, it will only apply to new orders received after saving the rule. Existing orders will be unaffected to Shipping Rule additions and edits.
How do I access my shipping rules?
Select the SETTINGS icon from the top left of the app, then click SHIPPING RULES under SHIPMENT SETTINGS.

How many shipping rules can I define?
How do I specify to which orders a shipping rule should apply?
You specify one or more conditions, each of which is checked against every incoming order. If all of the conditions for a shipping rule exist for an order, then that shipping rule is applied to that order. If any of the conditions do not exist, then the shipping rule is not applied to that order.
Here is an example with two conditions:
If an order has a status of Awaiting Payment and the total weight is less than or equal to 13 ounces, then this shipping rule will be applied to the order.

Can a shipping rule condition contain more than one selection?
Here is an example with two selections:
If an order has a status of Awaiting Shipment - OR - Partially Shipped, then this shipping rule will be applied to the order.
How do I control what the shipping rule does to the order?
That's easy: specify one or more actions. The actions are just things that ShippingEasy does for you.
Here is an example with two actions:
For every order that meets the conditions of this rule, ShippingEasy will set its Saved Carrier Selection to Large Envelope Flat and will set a specific Stored Address when that order is shipped.

How many actions can I specify in each shipping rule?
Up to 6.
How do I automatically create a shipment or purchase a shipping label?
After the list of actions, there are options for creating a shipment or purchasing a shipping label.
The default is to just send the order to the ORDERS page - no shipment is created automatically.
If you select "Send to Ready to Ship page", ShippingEasy will create a shipment for each order that meets the conditions of the shipping rule. So, if you prefer to ship orders one-by-one, this allows you to skip the ORDERS page.
If you also specify a saved carrier selection, then the order will be put onto the READY TO SHIP screen automatically, with the correct saved carrier selection. All you have to do is click a button to purchase the shipping label.
The final option, "Purchase and print label", not only creates a shipment but will also purchase the shipping label and print the label. This is ShippingEasy's InstantLabel feature.
The shipping label can only be purchased if you have used a shipping rule to assign a valid saved carrier selection to the order. If the assigned printer for the carrier is PDF, then the shipping label will be on the READY TO PRINT page. If the assigned printer for the carrier is a ConnectEasy printer, then the label will be sent to the printer.
Some customers will see a Drop Ship option. This is only displayed if at least one Amazon store in the account has Multi-channel Fulfillment enabled.
Are the rules applied after a shipment is created?
No. If a Shipping Rule has the option checked to create a shipment for each order that meets the conditions of the rule and an order meets all the conditions of that Shipping Rule then no subsequent Shipping Rules are applied to that order. If there are multiple Shipping Rules that you want to apply to each order, just set the create a shipment option on the last Shipping Rule in the list.
In what order are the Shipping Rules processed?
From top to bottom, as displayed on the SHIPPING RULES SETUP page.
What if two Shipping Rules specify overlapping actions?
The last Shipping Rule in the list will determine the value that gets set by ShippingEasy.
Here is an example:
You define two Shipping Rules, each with one condition.
- The condition on the first rule is that the order status is Awaiting Payment and the action is to set the order category to Yellow.
- The condition on the second rule is that the weight is greater than one pound and the action is to set the order category to Purple.
If an order comes in with an order category of Awaiting Payment and a weight of five pounds it meets the conditions of both Shipping Rules. But it can only have one category assigned.
Assuming the second Shipping Rule is listed below the first Shipping Rule on the SHIPPING RULES SETUP page, the category for the order will be set to Purple. You can reorder the Shipping Rules by using the arrow links on the SHIPPING RULES SETUP page.
How can I see which shipping rules were applied to an order?
The order popup that is available on the ORDERS, READY TO SHIP and SHIPMENT HISTORY screens lists all Shipping Rules that were applied to the order.
Why do I not see one of my store's requested services listed from the conditions list?
The list of requested services is taken from the orders that you have loaded into ShippingEasy. After an order comes in with that requested service specified, you will see it listed as an option when defining a Shipping Rule.
If I use a rule to apply a Saved Carrier Selection, can I batch my shipments?
Yes. If all of the orders within a batch have the same Saved Carrier Selection assigned by a Shipping Rule, then that Saved Carrier Selection will be used on the READY TO SHIP page. However, if even just one order in the batch didn't qualify for the rule, then the default Saved Carrier Selection will be assigned on the READY TO SHIP page. What does it mean to set the estimated weight?
There is a shipping rule action for setting an order's weight to an estimated value.
This action sets the weight of the order based on past orders that contained the same product(s). For more information, take a look at our FAQ guide.
Can I apply packing slips in overlapping shipping rules?
No. Once a packing slip template has been applied with one rule, that assignment cannot be overridden with a subsequent rule. It's best to narrowly define the conditions when assigning packing slips.
How do I assign Third Party Billing with a Shipping Rule?
If you have saved Third Party Billing accounts to your UPS or FedEx accounts, you can use a Shipping Rule to automatically apply these to your shipments. This saves you the time of assigning who to bill postage to.
ShippingEasy bills third party accounts based on the carrier attached to them. If you set a rule to bill to a third party on READY TO SHIP, you need to also include a Saved Carrier Selection into the rule.
The Set Saved Carrier Selection 'action' should be placed before the action to Set Saved Third Party Billing.
Do Shipping Rules apply to duplicate shipments?
No. ShippingEasy provides the option to duplicate shipments. Learn more. Yet since these shipments never return to the Orders page, Shipping Rules will not be applied to them. In addition, any Shipping Rules applied to the original order are not duplicated with the shipment.
