How to: Fix the Magento (v1.x) error "credentials could not be validated”

You may encounter the error "credentials could not be validated" if you have configured your Magento store to be WS-I Compliant. Turning off WS-I Compliance usually corrects this error.

To determine if your Magento store is configured for WS-I Compliance:

The easiest way to determine if your store is configured for WS-I Compliance is to hit your store url:

If WS-I Compliance is enabled then you'll see:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<wsdl:definitions xmlns:typens="urn:Magento" xmlns:xsd="" xmlns:soap="" xmlns:soapenc="" xmlns:wsdl="" name="Magento" targetNamespace="urn:Magento">
If the user is correctly configured (no WS-I) should see something like:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<definitions xmlns:typens="urn:Magento" xmlns:xsd="" xmlns:soap="" xmlns:soapenc="" xmlns:wsdl="" xmlns="" name="Magento" targetNamespace="urn:Magento">

To turn off WS-I Compliance:

NOTE:  WS-I should not need to be turned off for Magento 2. WS-I compliance is a SOAP concept and we do not use a SOAP API to connect up to Magento 2.

This error can be fixed by turning off WS-I Compliance on your Magento server.

  1. Login to your Magento Admin Panel.
  2. Click System and go to Configuration.

  3. On the left hand navigation menu, expand the Services menu and click Magento Core API.

  4. Change WS-I Compliance to No

  5. Click Save Config.

That should fix the "Credentials could not be validated" error and allow ShippingEasy to connect to your Magento server correctly.
