What is a Harmonized Code?

Created:   |   Updated:

Harmonized Codes speed up the shipment process and ensure the correct duties and taxes are applied.

Think of Harmonized Codes as the last hurdle before crossing the finish line. Although they are not mandatory to complete a Customs Form, the six-digit numbered Harmonized codes serve two important purposes aside from helping shipments move through Customs:

  • Identify products arriving and departing a country’s borders
  • Categorize goods and products in a worldwide system used for customs and tariff purposes

ShippingEasy provides a unique look up system for manually inputting Harmonized Codes that allows its users to type in a description of the items being shipped and select the best match. Harmonized Codes can also be manually entered in and we allow our users to set up default Harmonized Codes in their settings to override all international shipments.
