What is a Harmonized Code?

Harmonized Codes speed up the shipment process and ensure the correct duties and taxes are applied.

Think of Harmonized Codes as the last hurdle before crossing the finish line. Although they are not mandatory to complete a Customs Form, the 6-10 digit numbered Harmonized codes serve two important purposes aside from helping shipments move through Customs:

  • Identify products arriving and departing a country’s borders
  • Categorize goods and products in a worldwide system used for customs and tariff purposes
ShippingEasy only accepts the first 6 digits of a harmonized code. If you enter more than 6 digits, you will receive an error message when buying the label.

ShippingEasy provides a unique system for looking up and inputting Harmonized Codes that allows its users to type in a description of the items being shipped and select the best match. Harmonized Codes can also be entered manually and set as default Harmonized Codes to override all international shipments. Learn how to find harmonized codes for your products.
