How to: Check the status of my USPS insurance claim

ShippingEasy wants to help you learn about the e-commerce industry.
This article describes a service provided by the United States Postal Service (USPS).

The USPS is a separate organization from ShippingEasy.
For more information about USPS services, visit your local Post Office or go to USPS.com.

To review your claim, you will need to create or login to your USPS account. These credentials are separate from your ShippingEasy and Stamps accounts. Go to USPS.com to get started.

If you have filed a claim with our insurance partner Shipsurance, check the status of that claim.

Insurance claims filed with USPS for a domestic or international shipment can be checked either online or by phone.

If your USPS claim was filed online:

  1. It may be possible to check the status by signing into your USPS account at www.usps.com/help/claims.htm
  2. Then go to the Claims History tab.

How to: Check a Domestic Insurance Claim status

If you are having difficulty checking the status of your claim, you can contact USPS directly at:

Accounting Services Help Desk at 1-866-974-2733.
Hours of operation are Monday - Friday, from 8:00am to 8:00pm ET (7:00am to 7:00pm CST).

At a minimum, you will need to provide the following information:

  • Your name
  • Article number (Learn more)
  • Original mail date

If your claim was filed online, you can check the status by signing in to your account, and then clicking the Mail & Ship tab and Claims & Refunds. Domestic claims that can be filed online include insured mail, Collect on Delivery (COD), Registered Mail™ with insurance, and Priority Mail Express® items.

How to: Check an International Insurance Claim status

You can check the status of an international insurance claim using the option below:

Contact USPS directly at:
